What is the teachers' algorithm?

  1. Establish a clear, concrete and consistent objective for my course/subject/block. What do I want students to be able to achieve?
  2. Operationalize the objective: what brings me to that objective, what topics do I need to teach to achieve it, what practices do the students need to have in order to reach the objective?
  3. Build bridges: between the goals and the objective. How can I achieve it? Define the macro structure: times, number of meetings, synchrony of contents.
  4. Design a final product. Evaluate to learn. Obtain something concrete and tangible that makes learning and the objective achieved visible.

An interactive way to engage the student in a different way is to work on projects for the following reasons:

  • They learn to: manage projects, problem solvers, more engaged in learning, develop critical thinking, are more empathetic.
  • Stages: define different stages to evaluate the step by step and the progress in each of the instances.
  • Interdisciplinary: means that it is not a project that involves one discipline or one subject, but something constructive and global.
  • Reflective Process: A project should include a reflective stage, to make a metacognitive exercise. 
  • Inverted Classroom: practice in the classroom and theory outside the classroom

Planning

Planning each of the meetings is essential to sustain the quality of the experience. It is necessary to know how to recognize the priorities for each of the meetings and, in this way, be able to manage the time in the best possible way. The 3 keys to planning are:

  • Anticipate
  • Manage
  • Prepare
